Altered Dolls

Photobucket
Doll Chandelier photographed by Capt Joe 06 on Flickr
As the tv chefs say 'Here's one I prepared earlier'. Still moving pretty slowly here but improving and with that comes glimpses of the joie de vivre. The light of possibilities glimmers. Who knows what nice things will be just around the corner... Thank you again for your support. I'll be skipping by to visit with you soon. This post is for all those artists who take broken dolls and give them new life.

I'm reading The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder, an unusual worthwhile read...here's a few sentences...

'Do you know why most people just shuffle around the world without marvelling at everything they see?'

I shook my head.

'It's because the world has become a habit,' he said...'Nobody would believe in the world if they hadn't spent years getting used to it. We can study this in children. They are so impressed by everything they see around them that they can't believe their eyes. That's why they point here and there and ask about everything they lay their eyes on. It's different with us adults. We have seen everything so many times before that we take reality for granted.'

Hi Christy, Thanks for your comment on my blog...a tin collection sounds interesting :) the only thing is...i dont know where to put the two little house tins, so i think i better stop at two :) Isnt it tempting to start collections of lovely things? I quite often have to stop myself.

This post is another really interesting one! What an unusual video. And the lamp in the first picture is just amazing, ive never seen anything like it. As for dolls, i plan to try and make an art doll sometime soon, im sure it will be much harder that it looks.

I'm kind of with 'Lyptis' on altered dolls being a little creepy. But hey, I'm all for creepy! Another fascinating post Chrisy! Glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better. If I was a good cook I'd offer to make you some soup, but as I'm not a good cook it may make you feel worse. Instead, I'll send you some more hugs that I prepared earlier :D The Solitaire Mystery is a great book! Have you read Jostein Gaarder's Sophie's World? I'm guessing you have, but if you haven't, read that too! It's one of my all-time fave books. You be sure to continue resting and taking care of yourself xo

Wow... dolls sure are creepy. I love them! Especially the one in that wheat field. It makes me want to write little narratives to explain how these dollies got into these situations. :)

I'm thinking these patched and pieced dolls must be a reflection of how you're feeling .. .
glad to hear you are on the mend :-)

"It's because the world has become a habit,'

Yes, that along with stress, responsibility, and health problems. I even see it in dogs as they age. Puppies are delighted by everything, but they lose that fascination a little more each year. To some extent, it's inevitable.

The dolls ARE rather creepy, yet fascinating. The photos of the doll in various places reminds me of the traveling gnomes (ala Amalie). The quote from Jostein Gaarder is wonderful! Now I will have to get that book!
Here's to improving health for you.
PS: Your posts are always such a treat! I thank you for sharing with us.

What an incredible collection of photos. It's brilliant what everyone's doing with their unique doll sculptures. Each one has a fabulous sense of humor and is beautiful too.

I really like the art dolls from the broken dolls. I keep passing by a basket of these old dolls at the antique shop..now I'm going back to get them! I have enough projects to last at least 100 years but hey..why not a few more..hehehehe

Drop by anytime,
Stephanie

Though I hope you are feeling much better, you seem no worse for the wear - another post that is a work of art all its own! How long you must work to put these gorgeous pieces together for us and show us the world we have gotten too used to seeing in a whole different perspective. You are helping break the habit, my dear!

So glad you're picking up steam there Chrisy - we need your fabulous blog posts! These dollies - I am at once fascinated by them but also a little frightened of them! Not sure why!

Wonderful post, I love the doll art and the small excerpt from the book you're reading. It's very true.... I take so many beautiful things for granted. The video is also great, I love the vintage footage.

Hey, thanks for stopping by my Studio post. I enjoyed the inspiration over here regarding using old doll parts. Now that's thinking outside the box!
Glad to read you're pulling out of a recent sickness.
