Flight

Laying in bed this morning I looked up to see this flock of birdies that had flown in with the dawn light. And it got me thinking about flying, as I often do. Even when asleep I sometimes have those flying dreams where I’m whizzing across the country, buildings, river, mountains below me. The residual feeling from these dreams is powerful and can be conjured up at will as long as I’m still enough. (Visit the Melange Team challenge with the challenge this week 'Fly'.)

A bit off topic...but..wouldn't looking up from these gardens be lovely! via Houzz and Apartment Therapy

In this week in 1930 Amy Johnson, below became the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia. This video shows how fragile her little plane looks against the elements and how much excitement her visit generated here in Australia.

Also in this week in 1932, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly from America to Paris. Of her achievements she said -

The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.

These women are inspiring in that they were out there, living, doing, laying the groundwork for other women. And that’s an admirable thing. But I’ve found the more you get to know anybody, the more you realise how inspiring most individuals are. People are fascinating. You just have to scratch the surface.

If a woman wants to fly, first of all she must, of course, abandon skirts and don a knickerbocker uniform. Harriet Quimby, first lady in the U.S. to receive a pilots license, 1911.

Knickerbockers! Yes girls budding pilots need these. You'll be pleased to know that I’ve found a knitting pattern in a vintage book I have here. Just email me and I’ll send you a copy. Stay calm…no elbowing…just line up in an orderly fashion…

And from my fellow etsian artists, inspiration to help us fly creatively.

I have always admired Amelia Earhart for her profound courage at in an era where women were just "coming" out of their closets so to speak. We actually lived across the street from her home. I wish I could transport back in time when she lived there just to hear her convictions. I haven't had a flying dream in quite some time...love them!

I'm wondering if it was a prerequisite to flying in those early days that you also had to be very lovely looking too! Those gals!

I can still remember quite a few of my dreams as a kid too, many of them flying and floating. What a great blog you have going here.

I enjoyed the art. I used to fly a plane, and I used to have flying dreams, but both were long ago, and I miss them.

Amelia Earhart was stunning.

I love your flight themed post and the thought of dreaming that I'm flying. I only dreamed that once and it still holds the place as my most favorite dream ever.

Hope you've had a lovely week.xo

I hope this area is ordinarily the appropriate place to write this... I just simply wanted to notify any of us on the forum who resides in Oz know about a magnificent quality audio visual equipment web site called Ordio. I uncovered them somewhat by accident when I was shopping around for Headphones and it just so happened that these guys had the least expensive prices available. Not only that but they are remarkably knowledgeable and even followed up on my expenditure to verify I was still satisfied and content. They actually buy out huge inventories of high end audio visual equipment so that they can seriously break the price down. Absolutely visit their site if you're shopping around for some home electronics.
